Pinus tabulaeformis Carr. is a specific species in China, used for water and soil conversation forest in north of China. Dioryctria pryeri Ragonot is an important insect pest of coniferous cones and shoots in China. It is an oligophagous pests which mainly born larvae damage P. tabulaeformis , so it's very difficult to control. For a long time it has great impact on growth, updates and production of conifer in China. The defense produced after herbivore induced has provided a new approach to the integrated pest management. In this paper, solvent-microextractions and GC-MS were used to determine the change of terpenoid compounds in the infected cones and current year branches of Pinus tabulaeformis Carr. with time. The results as follow:In respect of total content of terpenes, the content of monoterpene and diterpene were signifficontly increast in herbiver-induced cones and current year branches, while Sesquiterpene content changed little. In infested cone the content of monoterpene, sesquiterpene and diterpene were higher than the herbivore-induced branches.the total content of monoterpene first increased and then decreased while diterpene content is decreasing with time. From the view point of changes of content and components with time of major terpenes in the cones, there were 7 monoterpenes , the specific components are 1R-α-pinene,α-pinene,α-phellandrene,α-myrcene, D-limonene, bornyl acetate after pest attack; there were 3 sesquiterpenes ,the specific components is caryophyllene; and there were 11 diterpenes , the specific components are methyl abietate, 1-phenanthrenecarboxylic acid methyl ester, 1-naphthalenecarboxylic acid methyl ester, kaur-16-en-18-oic acid, methyl ester. From the view point of changes of content and components with time of major terpenes in newly branches, there were 7 monoterpenes and no cyclohexene compared with cone. The specific components were consistent with cone. There were 3 diterpene components which were inconsistent with the cone, the new components are hexadecanoic acid, aromadendrene, 10, 13- octadecadiynoic acid, methyl ester. There is no podocarp-7-en-3á-ol, 1, 3, 6, 10-cyclotetradecatetraene, Androsta-4, 6-dien compared with cone. The new component is 10, 13- octadecadiynoic acid after herbivore-induced in current year branches. In short, the total content of monoterpene and diterpene were significantly increased and sesquiterpen was relatively unchanged by Dioryctria pryeri.attack two year cones. The newly branches was consistent with cones after induced and their specific components were essentially the same. At the same time, the change of terpenoid compounds with time in the infected cones and newly branches of Pinus tabulaeformis Carr. were studied,to explored the induced defense mechanism of Pinus tabulaeformis Carr. Cone and newly branches.
