The experiment was conducted to study the effect of Lactobacillus casei Zhang on growth performance and digestive function in broilers, in order to confirm the reasonable addition of Lactobacillus casei Zhang and provide theoretical basis for promoting production performance in broilers. The basal diet was mainly composed of corn and soybean. A total of 180 1-day-old AA mixed-sex broilers with similer body weight (P>0.05) were randomly allotted into 3 treatments with 6 replicates in each treatment, with 10 broilers in each replicate. The levels of Lactobacillus casei Zhang were 2×105cfu/ml,2×106cfu/ml in water in a single factorial arrangement. The trial period was 42d. Lactobacillus casei Zhang was drank for two times at 1 hour every day. The results showed as follows under the present experimental conditions:1. Lactobacillus casei Zhang could significantly increase the average daily gain and decrease feed gain ratio (P<0.05), the crude protein and energy digestibility tended to increase (P<0.10), especially the. supplementation of 2×106cfu/ml Lactobacillus casei Zhang had better effect during the first 21 days.2. Lactobacillus casei Zhang could significantly increase the amylase activity of pancrease(P<0.05) and amylase activity of jejunum and ileum (P<0.10), and the supplementation of 2×106cfu/ml Lactobacillus casei Zhang was higher than the supplementation of 2×105cfu/ml Lactobacillus casei Zhang.3. Lactobacillus casei Zhang could significantly increase the trypsin activity of pancrease and the chymotrypsin of duodenum (P<0.05), especially the supplementation of 2×106cfu/ml Lactobacillus casei Zhang had better effect.4. Lactobacillus casei Zhang had no significant effects on the lipase activity of small intestine and pancrease(P>0.05), however Lactobacillus casei Zhang tended to increase the lipase activity than the control group.5. Lactobacillus casei Zhang could increase the villi height, the villi width and the V/C on duodenum, jejunum and ileum (P<0.05 or P<0.10), decrease the villi recess (P<0.05 or P<0.10),especially the supplementation of 2×106cfu/ml Lactobacillus casei Zhang had better effect.6. Lactobacillus casei Zhang could promote the production performance, digestive function and increase the economy benefit in a dose-effect relationship, and the supplementation of 2×106cfu/ml Lactobacillus casei Zhang was better than the supplementation of 2×105cfu/ml Lactobacillus casei Zhang.
