Dendroctonus is one group of most serious forest pests, all of which are economic species, and could directly cause great losses of forest resources. The distribution latitude of Dendroctonus in North America is similar to that in China, so does the climate, whose geographical conditions are also entirely appropriate for Dendroctonus introduction, colonization, spread and outbreak.Base on the data collections and comparatively analysis of Dendroctonus on the study history and status of classification at home and abroad. This study collected and analyzed the latest information of the world's 19 species subjected to Dendroctonus on their morphological characteristics, host, distributions, biological habits and the distribution of their relative species in the world, and established the identification key of Dendroctonus with pictures and their vivid descriptions, which provide theoretical and scientific basis for port quarantine and epidemic case interceptions. The interception records of Dendroctonus at ports in China for recent 20 years and data on the timber importation were collected and analyzed. The rules of invasion were revealed in terms of the interception quantity, categories, frequencies and imported good categories, original countries and regions, and interception dates. Twenty-eight ports have intercepted more than 10 species of Dendroctonus since 1985 in China, which were introduced from North America, Europe, South America, Asia and Oceania. In the course of port quarantine, Dendroctonus pseudotsuage were intercepted at the highest frequency, while D. valens has colonized in China successfully, although its interception frequency was not the highest. Our results showed that it is necessary to focus on checking and quarantining wood or woody package from North America, especially douglas firs, ponderosa pines, slash pines and loblolly pines.
