During the eco-environmental restoration, there shows many problems: the grass becomes withered and yellow, the trees are undergrowth and the soils are salinization in Shendong mining area. Through the combined method of sampling in field and indoor experiment and modified experiment, This paper synthetically assess the soil characteristic, research the cause of vegetation undergrowth and soil salinization in Shendong mining area, and try to take measures to improve the soils.The research shows:the nutrient contents of the Soils are very low except total K, the microelement quantity of zinc,boron and molybdenum can not meet the need of vegetative. The soil is slight salinization, SO42- is the main sort of the salt in the soils. the soil differs from slight salinization to serious salinization, the grass in Heitangou is not basified, the soils in lawn of hospital and Daxishan show moderate basified, The soil in Erbiaoduan show serious basified. The percent of irrigation water mining materials(2.15g/L-10.18g/L)is seriously higher, which contribute the increase of salt and basification.Among the improved measures, the sewage sludge contains a lot of nutrients, it can increase soil nutrient content; gypsum improvement can effectively reduce the HCO3-, exchangeable sodium content, lower pH, and gypsum improvement, especially in coordination with the irrigation, can better mend basified soils. Mining fertilizer and the improvement of basification should go with irrigation. Otherwise, it will easily lead to botanic physiological drought.
