Water is the source of life, and water system is the lifeline of the city. The city need water system, however, reclaiming farmland from lakes and the sea is serious during the process of urbanization. This makes bad destruction of the original ecological water system, changes the urban structure of flood controlling, increases the risk of flood, and affects the city's flood controlling and waterlogging controlling severely. Therefore, the emphasis on the city's water system planning has become a matter of a colossal task.Southern Jiangsu is the Water Village, with many rivers distributing there. As the reform and opening-up, the level of urbanization increased significantly, water system and hydrology changed greatly also. Water system changes, reclaiming farmland from lakes, etc, made a serious threat to flood and waterlogging control. Southern Jiangsu is the economically developed areas, it will be a serious loss in case of floods. Therefore, the emphasis on water planning to protect the security in southern Jiangsu, is important with practical value. In this paper, take northern part of the Grand canal in Wujin as example, it provides a basis for water system planning in southern Jiangsu through the comparison of polder combination and merger, and drainage works distribution, etc.Based on previous studies, this paper summarized the content and methods of water system planning of the polder in southern Jiangsu, proposed the concrete steps, such as optimization step of the polder combination and merger and the distribution of drainage pump station, gave the planning of northern part of the Grand canal in Wujin at last:(1)raised the plan of polder combination and merger in northern part of the Grand canal according to the one-dimensional unsteady flow model and the outside river's water level of the three schemes based on the present status;(2)proposed the plan of drainage pump station of Hezuo polder as typical, through the establishment of one-dimensional unsteady flow model, and comparison of the five programs.
