In this study, the morphology and microscopic characteristics and karyotype characteristics of Baphicacanthus cusia(Nees) Bremek. were investigated. The results were as following:1.There were significant differences in height, stem diameter, leaf length, leaf width of Baphicacanthus cusia(Nees) Bremek. among different habitats. The 13 different habitats were divided into three groups: habitats in groupâ… were :Guizhou, Minhoushanenyuan, Putiandayang, Nanjinghexi, Longyanxinluo, they were high and leptophyllous ; habitats in groupâ…¡were:Bendiyesheng, Yongtaiqingyunshan,Yongtaichibi,Nanpingmangdangshan,Longyanzijinshan ;habitats in groupâ…¢were: Fuzhousenlingongyuan,Bendizaipei,Bendiyesheng, they were short and the leaves nearly oval.2.Stem, rhizome and leaf were studied by free hand section method.Baphicacanthus cusia(Nees) Bremek. of different habitats with similar structure: there were cytolite,stone cell in the rhizome. Vascular bundles of the midrib were arranged in a semicircle. The difference was that there were no white pith in the Bendiyesheng.3.All four different habitats presented uniform diploid numbers(2n=32),yet different in their karyotypic formulae: Bendizaipei was 2n=2x=32=5m+6sm+5st, which belong to"3B"type, the AS.K% was 70.09%; Bendiyesheng was 2n=2x=32=5m+7sm+4st, which belong to"3B"type, the AS.K% was 67.50%;Nanpingmangdangshan was 2n=2x=32=12m+4sm,which belong to"2B"type, the AS.K% was 61.94%; Guizhouyizai was 2n=2x=32=8m+7sm+1st, which belong to"2B"type, the AS.K% was 65.68%.
