In this paper, investigating the characteristics of original habitat,the living status of populations,choosing the suitable cultural matrix and the fertilizer formula for pot cultivation were studied on Cymbidium insigne in Hainan Island. The rusults can be summarized as follows:1. From the investigation, wild cymbidium insigne distributed in Jianfeng mountain, Limu mountain and Wuzhi mountain in Hainan Island. The habitat of wild cymbidium insigne always distributed in a relatively exposed zone in the evergreen coppice and bush wood of mountaintop in high altitude. The altitude distributed from 1200m~1860m. Landform slope was just steep, all above 30°.2. The habitat was richer in plant species. The species composition in habitat had some differences in different mountains, but there grew Ericaceae plants and Gesneriaceae plants. Wild cymbidium insigne populations were small and distributed dispersive comparatively each other, in addition, the distribution was centered relatively between members in a population. The grown cymbidium insigne took up a less proportion in populations.3. Overall analysis on mineral element contents measured in the experiment showed that cymbidium insigne accumulated mineral elements better in compound matrixes than in single ones. Cymbidium insigne accumulated a range of mineral element contents, in which plants could grow well, in matrix8,matrix9 and matrix 10.Matrix9 held back the fertilizer better than matrix8 and matrix10, therefore, as for the economy angle, matrix9 (bark:lava stone: sphagnum=3:1:1) was fit to be used as pot culture matrix for cymbidium insigne.4. Overall analysis on mineral element contents in the ground part and underground part of cymbidium insigne showed that fertilizer3 (N:P:K=6:3:4) was appropriate to cymbidium insigne for accumulating mineral elements. It was suitable for cymbidium insigne to be supplied fertilizer weekly and 100 ml fertilizer solution every time.
