Xinjiang River located in the northeast of Jiangxi Province, which is one of the five rivers of Jiangxi Province. It originated from Yushan Country Sanqing Village around Zhejiang-Jiangxi border, located at east longitude 118°44′, north latitude 28°59′. Estuary located at the Yugan Country Ruihong Village, east longitude 116°23′, north latitude 28°44′. The main river is 359km long, valley area is 17599km2, accounting for 10% of the total area of Jiangxi Province.This paper studied the fish resources of fishery, morphological characters of four major Chinese carps'young individual, resources of four major Chinese carps. It also analyzed the genetic diversity of four major Chinese carps by ISSR -PCR.We recorded 40 species of wild fish at Yingtan site in Xinjiang River. Which belong to 4 orders,10 families. Among them, cyprinid accounted for 72.50%, including 29 species; The four major Chinese carps accounted only for 1.95%. The major economic species composed of bream, carps and crucian carps.A total of 247 four major Chinese carps were collected from March to August. Which included 6 black carps,101 grass carps,27 silver carps,113 bighead carps. By determining the age of four major Chinese carps collected between March and June, we can see that the age structure is composed of the samples of 1 and 2 years. The percentage of them in black carp, grass carp, silver carp and bighead carp is 75%,71%,81% and 90% respectively. We can also see that in this period there are not too much four major Chinese carps, but they are generally large individuals. Besides, we took the morphological characters determination of the four major Chinese carps collected between July and August.The genetic variations in four major Chinese carps were analyzed with ISSR with 17 documented primer pairs, which generate 42(black carp),38 (grass carp), 31(silver carp),50 (bighead carp)bands.The Percentage of Polymoryphism was 35.72%,65.79%,61.29% and 52.00% separately. The index of Nei's gene diversity and Genetic diversity quantified by Shannon Index are:black carp (H=0.1299, I=0.1926), grass carp (H=0.2581,I=0.3781), silver carp (H=0.2198,I=0.3285), bighead carp (H=0.1883,I=0.2808). The genetic similarity between populations and coefficient of gene differentiation are:black carp (0.8492,0.1644), grass carp(0.8152,0.2263), silver carp(0.7649,0.2128), bighead carp (0.8305,0.1875). Compared with the status in Yangtze River, the four major Chinese carps in Xinjiang River have high level of genetic diversity and larger heredity and variation space.
