Tomato is an important vegetable crops, the difficulty of tomato breeding is high genetic similarity, the new development and utilization of germplasm resources is an effective way. In the tomato inbred line 06884, we found a natural tomato leaf color mutant. There are some yellow spots in its leaves. The color of mutant fruit is white before breaker, but later could mature normally and mutant fruit has larger fruit firmness. Characteristics of fruit ripening of tomato leaf color mutant 06883 included the change of fruit color, the reason for the changing, respiratory intensity, fruit quality and so on.And its value in use(such as yield, light resistance, storability of fruit) also has been studied. By combining ability analysis, 06883 was validated to be a valuable germplasm resource. The main results were as follow:1.As to tomato leaf color mutant 06883, chlorophyll content of its fruits in mature green is extremely low, while the content of carotenoid is high, so the fruit was not green but white; Although the carotenoid content is slightly higher than in the green mature,the content of chlorophyll remaines low in the white mature, fruits still show white; In breaker, lycopene is also limited to lead to take much longer time to accumulate, as that the breaker is prolonged; Fruits were wholely changed in red owing to the synthesis of a large number of lycopene.2. Ethylene contents in fruits of tomato leaf color mutant 06883 were not increased dramatically until breaker, but still less than the wild-type 06884.In ripe, there are no differences between the both. In mature white, the lycopene contents of fruits, dealed with exogenous ETH, of tomato leaf color mutant 06883 were similar to fruits of wild-type 06884, which were not dealed so the reduction of ethylene production bringed about the decreasing of lycopene content in fruit of tomato leaf color mutant 06883. By the exogenous application of ETH can phenocopy wild-type 06884.3.Yields of 06883 and 06884 are no significant difference. Hardness and storability of tomato leaf color mutant 06883 fruits, although weaker than those of tomato ripening mutant 08535 and 08584, are more Superior than 06884. Excepct for the contents of soluble proteins, in fruit quality, tomato leaf color mutant 06883 are almost equal to wild-type 06884, and much better than tomato ripening mutant 08535 and 08584, especially lycopene contents. In respiration rate, the start time of the absorption peak and the highest peak of tomato leaf color mutant 06883 are in between wild-type 06884 and tomato ripening mutant 08535 or 08584.4.Under different levels of weak light stress, the decrease of SLM, VLM, chlorophyll content, activities of protective enzymes and the increase of plant height / stem diameter, LAR, MDA content of tomato leaf color mutant 06883 are less than those of wild-type 06884 respectively. Therefore, the sensitivity to weak light stress of leaf color mutant 06883 is less than that of wild-type 06884. So we prefer, it was, to some extent, weak light resistant.5.Combining ability analysis of the indexes of low light resistant, fruit firmness and ASI of fruit, tomato leaf color mutant 06883 has a higher general combining ability. As hybrid parent, the tomato leaf color mutant 06883 always emerged in those crosses with high specific combining ability, which were about light resistans, fruit firmness and ASI. Therefore, in practice breeding on improving the fruit firmness, ASI, light resistans,the tomato leaf color mutant 06883 is a good germplasm resource.
