This thesis analyzes the structural characteristics of urban forest communities of Xiamen, a subtropical city, investigate the urban landscape demand of urban residents and discuss the way to construct a stable plant community. The main conclusions are drawn as follows:(1) the floristic composition, composition structure and species diversity of plantation forests communities is significantly different from that of secondary forest communities and natural forests as well. In arbor layer, the dominant families of plantation forest are Palmae, Leguminosae, Moraceae and Euphorbiaceae, the dominant families of secondary forest are Lauraceae, Rubiaceae, Ehretiaceae and Myrtaceae. The diversity index of secondary forests is higher than that of plantation forest, while the diversity index of plantation forests is higher than that of secondary forests. (2) the primary concern shall be ecological functions, and then the landscape effect. It is expected that plant community become multilayered and species-rich. Landscape construction demand mainly plants with significantly seasonal variation and ornamental characteristics which embodies the nature beauty and the unique forest cultural features. (3) Urban forest community construction is under the instruction of natural landscape design, landscaping with native plants and protective landscape design theory. Tree species selection submitted is based on characters of Xiamen city. The type of landscape construction is discussed from site condition, resistance and landscape effect. Lastly, the method of optimizing urban forest structure is developed in this thesis, including comprehensive investigation, scientific and reasonable planning to protect the ecological environment, regional landscape establishment by application of native plants, scientific and rational allocation by imitating zonal vegetation type, spatiotemporal variation being magnificently conceived by the structure change features, creating suitable landscape according to function and requirements, and regulating community succession through appropriately technical measures of forest construction.
