Objective To sum the method,complication,quantity of hemorrhage and cure result of endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) in 72 cases. Methods Seventy-two cases with chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps undergone ESS from 2000 to 2001 were appraised with the standard criteria .There were 14 cases (19.4%) in type 1,35 cases (48.6%) in type 2 and 23cases in type 3. Fifty-seven cases under went ESS under local anesthesia and 15 cases under general anesthesia,7 cases underwent submucous resection of nasal septum or septoplasty.Long-term follow-up was performed at 3 to 15 months(mean=6 months)Results The results showed that cure rate was 92.8% for type 1,82.8% for type 2 and 69.6% for type 3, There was significant difference hi cure rate among different types (P<0.01). The complications of ESS in 72 cases occurred in 12.5% .The mean quantity of hemorrhage hi general anesthesia was 220ml and 185ml hi local anesthesia. Conclusion The cure result is directly related to the disease .The orbital complication is the most complication hi ESS.
