With the development of microsurgery, anastomosis techniques of small vascular have been enhanced greatly. But, how to improve the anastomosis technique has aroused more and more attention of many people. In this study, carotid artery of rabbits have been anastomosed by a kind of low power COa laser-linearity CO2 laser and vascular sustenance. The long-time patency, and the aneurysm rates after operation have been observed and the research of the physical qualities and pathomorphology of vascular wall have been done as well.In this study, 104 grown-up rabbits were operated on. One side of the carotid arteries was divided and anastomosed by using sutures, the other side was joined by "welded" with CC>2 laser. In different times after operation, we compared the long-time patency, the aneurysm rates and physical qualities of the two groups, and observed the difference of the pathomorphology in the vascular wall.The results are as follows:1. The immediate patency rates of vascular after operation in these two groups were both 100%, the long-time patency rates of the laser group and the suture group were respectively 98.08% and 94.23%.2. The aneurysm rates of laser group and that of the suture group were respectively 2.88% and 0%.3. Changes of physical qualities: The results of bursting pressure testing showed that the laser group was higher than the suture group in the first week after operation, and two weeks later, the results of these two groups were the same. The results of tensils strength showed that the laser group was lower than the suture group in two weeks after operation, later, they became the same.4. Changes of pathomorpholoy: In the laser group, the injure of vascular ultima was slighter, the structure of vascular wall was clean, and the inflammation was slighter. In the suture group.the damage of ultima was more serious and the structure was disorder, the inflammation was more serious. After operation, the hyperplasia of endotheliocyte in the laser group was earlier than in the suture group; the number of elasticity fibra was enough, and the cells of smooth muscle were order. In suture group, there were obvious fibrolastosis around suture, and there was hyperplasia of granuloma in the vascular wall. The present study reveals that:1. The anastomosis of small vascular with low power CO2 laser is feasible.2. The long-time patency, the aneurysm rates and the physical qualities in anastomosed small vascular with low power CO2 laser are satisfactory.3. The injure and inflammation of vascular wall in laser anastomosis are slight, and which can recover quickly.
