The paper is to discuss the role of the concentration of serum total bilirubin in the etiology of atherosclerotic thrombotic cerebral infarction. Method: 327 pou of patients and 380 pou of controls are selected. They are divided into 2 groups, which are referred to as group A-the patients and group B~the controls. By drawing the blood on an empty stomach to measure the concentration of serum total bilirubin and compare the differences between the concentration of each group, the author analyses the relationship between the serum total bilirubin of thin concentration and atherosclerotic thrombotic cerebral infarction. Result: The concentration of serum total bilirubin of the patients is significant lower than that of the controls (u= 5.57 , /K0.01) The ratio of the concentration in Group A is higher than that in Group B. On the contrary. The ratio of the thick concentration in Group A is lower than that in Group B(x2 =66.01, /K0.01) It indicates that the serum total bilirubin of thin concentration is relative to the etiology of atherosclerotic thrombotic cerebral infarction. Compared with thick concentration, thin concentration will do more harm to atherosclerotic thrombotic cerebral infarction (OR=2.36, x2=5.30, /K0.05) . Conclusion: There is a relationship between the serum total bilirubin of thin concentration and the etiology of atherosclerotic thrombotic cerebral infarction.
