Many people have mostly studied and reported on the high speed projectile injurying in maxillofacial region, otherwise there are few reports on blast injury. They usually used detonator which couldn't repesent the typical blast injury characterise. We introduced a new type of point blast source, and observed the histological changes of soft tissue in maxillofacial blast injury,so that we can provide a theroy for early treatment and reconstruction.Place the point blast sources at 2 mm above the middle of the forward edge of the examined rabbit's facial masseter and ignite to imitate blast wave, so we can establish a typical animal model. After injury we examined life signs, other important organs and maxillofacial injuries. Take the soft tissue which are 0-0.5cm> 0.5-1.0cm> 1.0-1.5cm away from the wound area, observe the histological alterations with opticalmicroscope and electronic microscope immediately, 3d x 6d ^ 9d ^ 12d after injury. And examine local expression of TGF- P in soft tissue at different time by using SABC technique. The result indicated that:1 the model could imitate accurately the lesions of maxillofacial blast injury. It has fine repetitions, constant blast energy, and easy to establish. It is of application and experimental value to some extent. It's similar to the blast injury by using detonator.2 The blast injury in maxillofacial region was very serious, and the average wound area was ( 1.7 + 0 . 1 ) c m x ( 1.5 + 0.1) cm,contused wound area was ( 2.0 ?.2) cmx ( 1.8?.1) cm. The range of the primary reconstruction should be 0.5cm-1 .Ocm by soft tissue and 0.2cm by skin.3 High expressions of TGF-a were observed in all specimens, the locations were focus on endothelial > fibroblasts. There was only one peak of the TGF-a expression curves, and the crest value reached at six days after wound. High expressions of TGF-a were playing an important role in the healing of wound tissue, and suggested that TGF- ? have an important internal function to the process of wound healing...
