[ Objective] To study retinal neural cell apoptosis in different times in type 2 diabetic model KK mice.I Materials and Methods} KK mice were randomly divided into normal control group, diabetic control group. The eyeballs were carried out to make retinal sections when three groups lasted 1 and 3 months. The apoptotic cells stained by the method of TUNEL were observed with light microscope. The ultrastructure of the retinal nerve and microvesseles were also observed under electron microscope.[Results] Few apoptotic cells of retinal never cells lie in ganglion cell layer in normal control group. Compared with normal control group ,apoptosis was highly significant in the retinal never cells in diabetic control group at 1st and 3rd months (P<0.01),the positive cells lie in retinal ganglion cell layer and medial part of inner nuclear layer, and the quantities of positive cell in course of 3 months were much higher than that in course of 1 month(P<0.01). The apoptotic never cells were observed in early stage of retinal microangiopathy or even before itunder the electron microscope.[ Conclusions ] 1. The number of apoptosis in the retinal never cells increases athologically in early course of type 2 diabetes 2. Retinal neurodegeneration emerge in early stage of retinal microangiopathy or even before it 3.Both retinal neurodegeneration and microangioathy should be regarded as the component of the diabetic retinopathy.
