Wang Kentang was a great medical scientist in the Ming Dynasty. His excellent medical skill had many contributions to medical theory. Gynecological Standards for Diagnosis and Treatmenthe wrote was a famous medical works including all of his knowledge and study in life. It involves theories and clinical practices. There were five volumes that include four different parts, that is, adjustment of monthly, miscellaneous diseases, cases of mother-to-be, cases after birth. The book referred to The Complete Efficacious Prescriptions for Women's Disease by Chen Ziming . Chen Ziming was a great medical scientist in Song Dynasty. Wang Kentang wrote the book on the basis of many compositions of many medical scientists. For example, Internal Classic, Classic On Medical Problems, Jia Yi Jing, Dan Xis Experiential Therapy, The Classified Collection of Internal Classic and so on. The authors were Chen Ziming, Xue Ji, Dai Sigong, etc. He kept on collecting remedies and prescriptions from a broad way and classified them into different categories. Then he compiled the five-volume book Gynecological Standards for Diagnosis and Treatment. This book is regarded as comprehensive summary of prescription books before the Ming Dynasty. It not only has a leading effect on the present gynecology of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), but also has animportant value of literature.The major character of Gynecological Standards for Diagnosis and Treatment is listed as follows.First, the book's models were complete. The book was compiled on the basis of many about sixty ancient noted medical doctors' experiences and seventy books. There were many diagnostics in each part, and many prescriptions in each diagnostic. The organization of the book was clear-cut It's convenient for us to have a look up. Every diagnostic includes the medical theories and the ancient prescriptions, whose source were noticed. The book's model was best in the comprehensive book of the ancient prescription.Second, the styles of the book were particolored. When Wang Kentamg described the reason of disease, pathogenesis and prescription, he gave many effective and ineffective examples, and the examples before or after the prescription were provided as well. In addition, the book was written in popular verse forms, which makes it a better prototype. It become the better prototype.Third, the content of the book was extensive. It covered nine dynasties, that is two Han Dynasty, Sui Dynasty, Tang Dynasty, Song Dynasty, Ming Dynasty. It included sixty medical doctors, such as Zhu Danxi, Zhang Yuansu, Wang Haizang, Cheng Ziming, Xue Ji, etc. It refered to seventy medical books, such as Internal Classic, Treatise on Febrile Diseases, The Complete Efficacious Prescriptions for Women's Disease, Revised and Annotated Prescriptions for Women, Chan Boo, peacefid Hofy BenevolentPrescriptions, etc. And six non-medical books, such as, Shi Ji, Mao Shi, Bing Bu Shou Ji, Hong Fan, Yue Sheng Sui Chao, Yi Jian Zhi. It consisted of five hundreds and thirty one examples of disease. There were three hundreds and seventy-five Xue Ji's examples, hundred and fifty-six other's examples. It included thousand eight hundreds and five ancient prescriptions. There were hundred and eighteen the ancient prescriptions of the powder for external application, thousand six hundreds and eighty-seven the ancient prescriptions of the powder for oral administration. There were ten usages in the ancient prescriptions of the powder for external application, There were seven usages in the powder for oral administration.Fourth, the literature value of the book was of a great significance. The book referred to more than 70 books of the ancient medical. Some of them are not available. Today there are some extant books and some non-extant books. So many books could express the extant books in Ming Dynasty. There are more than 30. So the book gives us the first-hand information about the medical research in Ming Dynasty.
