Objective To explore the feasibility and reliability of laparoscopic fundoplication in treatment of severe gastro-esophageal reflux disease(GERD). Methods Laparoscopic Fundoplication was performed in 19 cases of severe GERD from Dcember, 2000 to January, 2003. Observed the change before and after operation, including esophagitis, lower esophageal sphincter pressure(LESP),acid reflux,et al. Results Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication was performed in 16, Laparoscopic Toupet Fundoplication was performed in 3. Symptoms were completely relieved. There was no postoperative complications. There was no conversion and death. The LESP was increased from 7. 32?. 34mmHg to 18. 20 + 3. 43mmHg (p<0.01) .The DeMeester score of 24h pH monitoring was significantly declined from 183. 36?6. 76 to 8. 04?.12 (p<0.01). Both of them achieved the normal value. Conclusions Laparoscopic Fundoplication is secure and effective for severe GERD. It needs continue to explore the appropriate operation for severe GERD of different type.
