Objective: To investigate the significance of the expression of CD44S and CD44V6 in breast cancer. Methods: The expression of the CD44S and CD44V6 protein in 55 cases of breast cancer, 15 cases of benign tumor and 15 cases of breast adenosis were detected by immunohistochemistry method(strap tar dim -HRP, S-P).Results: 1.The positive expression rate of CD44S and CD44V6 were 49.1% and 87.3% in breast cancer;2.CD44S expression shows no significant difference in breast cancer, benign tumor and breast adenosis(P>0.05);3.The positive expression rate of CD44V6 in breast cancer is higher than that in benign tumor(36.7%)or that in breast adenosis(40%)(p<0.05);4.The expression of CD44S is not correlated with histological grade, histological type, PTNM stage, lymph node status and ER and PR status(P>0.05);5.The expression of CD44V6 is correlated with histological type, lymph node status and PTNM stage. But it is not correlated with histological grade and ER and PR status(P>0.05). The positive expression rate of CD44V6 in positive lymph node metastasis group(100%)was higher than that in negative lymph node metastasis group(80.6%)(P<0.05). The positive expression rate of CD44V6 in Stageâ…¢of breast cancer was higher than stagesâ… andâ…¡ of breast cancer(P<0.05).Conclusions: The results suggest that high expression of CD44V6 is correlated with the process of invasion and metastasis in breast cancer. It can be as a molecular marker of biological character in breast cancer.
