| Objective To observe the curative effect of Maze III procedure combine with cardiac valve replacement for rheumatic heart disease with atrial fibrillation(AF).Methods Fifteen patients suffering from rheumatic heart disease with atrial fibrillation were treated by Maze III procedure combine with cardiac valve replacement.Chronic atrial fibrillation persisted over two years and the cardiac function were from grade III to grade IV. Warfarin was administered after operation for all patients. Results The cardiopulmonary bypass time was 248 ?75.49mins;the aortic cross-clamp time was 130 + 26.95 minsjthey could generate an appropriate tachcardic response to exercise;normal sinus rhythm was restored in 100% after operation;atrial contractility was restored in all patients;six patients' cardiac function changed to grade II and seven patients changed to grade HI;no serious hemorrhage related to anticoagulant therapy happened;the late mortality was 7.1%(1/14).Conclusion: Maze in procedure combine with cardiacvalve replacement is safe and effective in treating rheumatic heart disease with atrial fibrillation;restore the contract function of left atrium;reduce the risk of thromboembolism;improve the quality of life. |
