Background and ObjectiveMycosis fungoides CMF) is a malignant neoplasm of T-lymphocyte,a primary cutaneous lymphoma. The first case of MF was reported by French man Albert in 1806. The disease was once considered to be uncommon, but the incidence is increasing in recent years. In general MF is a chronic, slowly progressive disorder. Cutaneous presentation includes patch stage, plaque stage, tumor stage. MF is a great imitation, the patch-plaque stage lesions resemble eczema, chronc contact dermatitis, lichen simplex chronicus, psoriasis, erythema muliforme, and so on. The distinction of MF from benign inflammatory lesions is sometimes difficult by conventional histological techniques. The diagnosis of patch/plaque stage especially in the early patch stage is often regarded as difficult or impossible due to the lack of clear-out histopathologic criteria. In order to furtherinvestigate the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of early stage mycosis fungoides. A clinical anlysis on MF was conducted.Methods7 cases in- patients recorded by our hospital from 1994 to 2002 were Retrospectively analyzed and the literature of early MF was reviewed. Experience was summarized in the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of early MF.Results1. The elderly patients with severe pruritus, extensive skin lesions, poor effect and scaly erythema were important clues about the diagnosis.2. The efficacy of single histologic feature in the diagnosis of early MF was generally poor.3. The first-line treatment for patch stage MF was class I topical corticosteroids(CSs). The effect of conbination of CSs, interferon-alpha(IFN-a) and PUVA may achieve excellent uinical responces, many of which were long-lasting, in patients with early MF.4. Age, clinical skin disease stage and therapeutic effect were associated with prognosis.ConclusionsThe results shows that a combination of clinical course, histologic findings and adjunctive techniques remains the gold standard in the diagnosis of early MR The earier proper treatment, the better prognosis.
