Objective: To review the clinical, pathological manifestations and therapeutic regimens in different stages of mycosis fungoides(MF). Methods: We analyzed retrospectively the clinical and laboratory data including histopathological and immunopathologicl findings of 12 cases of MF, which consisted of 1 case in erythema stage, 8 cases in plaque stage and 3 cases in tumor stage. Results: The main manifestations in erythema stage were erythemas, papules, and usually showed a lack of special changes in histology. The most common rashes in plaque stage were squamous and hypertrophic plaques, or depigmented maculae. Histology revealed a band-like or lichenoid infiltrate of atypical mononuclear cells within the papillary dermis with overlying epidermotropism in this stage. And the lesions of tumor-stage MF were typically exophytic, mushroom-shaped tumors. The pathological manifestations of this phase were massive and diffused infiltration of atypical lymphocytes in dermis usually involved subcuntaneous tissues. Interferon took effective on the patients in erythema stage, while local or systematic chemotherapy could benefit the patients in tumor stage. The complete or significant response rate of early-stage MF(Stage- I ) was 83%, while stage- II and stage-III MF was 40%. Conclusion: Rashes and histopathology showed a lack of special changes but it responsed well to therapy in erythema stage. Both lesions and histopathology were distinctive changes in plaque and tumor stage, yet the patients in tumor stage were often reluctant to achieve completely response. It may be better to treat the patients in earlier-stage than in later-stage.
