| objective : To get epidemiological data about the Alcohol-Related Mental Health Problem in Jinuo Nationality Area (ARMHPJ) in more detail; To discuss and to find the reasons for the rapid deterioration of the ARMHPJ in recent 20-years, and to provide more accurate theoretical gist of intervention for this serious situation. Methods: 1. Epidemiological quantified questionnairal methods: Investigated the pattern of drinking and drunkenness, the attitude to alcohol consumption and the mental disorders due to alcohol in the adults (16+ years old) in five villages which were screened by stratified random sampling. 2. The anthropological qualified methods were used to collect the Materials about historical transition of alcohol-related conception, culture and social economical situation. Results: 1. Sample: 649 adults had been investigated. 2. About the Attitude Questionnaire to alcohol consumption that was specially designed for Jinuo nationality: According to the analysis for the first draft, we got a questionnaire including 26 items and 5 factors. Its structural validity is acceptable, and its reliability is good. 3. Alcohol Consumption: There were 495(77.2%) investigated persons acknowledged drinking behaviors in all-life time. The alcohol consumption per capita was 11696ml (11900ml for Jinuo nationality) for all the investigated persons, 15122ml (15399ml for Jinuo nationality) who acknowledged drinking behaviors. 4. Mental Disorders due to Alcohol: The prevalence of acute alcohol intoxication was 115.63‰ (116.80‰ forJinuo nationality) in last month, and it was 194.77‰ (195.27‰ for Jinuo nationality) in males and 23.65‰ (24.39‰ for Jinuo nationality) in females; the prevalence of common alcohol dependence was 137.44‰ (176.00‰ for Jinuo nationality), and it was 267.449‰ (269.23‰ for Jinuo nationality) in males, 64.19‰(66.20‰ for Jinuo nationality) in females: The prevalence of psychotic disorders due to alcohol was 23.44‰ (24.00‰ for Jinuo nationality), and it was 34.88‰(335.509‰ for Jinuo nationality) in males and 10.10‰(110.45‰ for Jinuo nationality) in females. 5. Risk factors for Mental Disorders due to Alcohol: For the alcohol dependence, the main risk factors are male, the altitude which is more support alcohol consumption, the higher frequency of drinking and the more number of alcohol consumption per year; For the acute alcohol intoxication, the main risk factors are male, the younger age of first drunkenness, the higher education level, the higher frequency of drinking and the more number of alcohol consumption per year. Conclusion: The alcohol-related mental health problem has already become a very important public health problem in Jinuo nationality area. The main reasons for this situation may be the Jinuo's tolerant tradition to alcohol consumption, the rapid economic development, the influence of social-culture changing and exotic culture, the very hard and difficult labor work and the condition which is lack of medical and healthy support. The effective intervention should aim at these main reasons. |
