Our previous clinical studies have indicated Chuanxiong and Chongweizi can effcctively faciliate the recovery of acute cerebral ischemic patients .To investigate the mechanism of Chuanxiong and Chongweizi on the treatment of cerebral ischemic vascular diseases, we studied the expression of anamnesis and nerve cell iNOS in the MCAO rats. The MCAO (middle cerebral artery occlusion) rat models were made by nylon thread embolus. The rats were divided four groups before givign Chuanxiong and Chongweizi. We observed the variety of rats' anamnesis nerve signs and common situation, detected the change of rats' anamnesis function by morris water mate and melanotrophy experment, detected nitric oxide(NO), endothelin(ET), super-oxide dismutase(SOD), MDA, glutathione peroxidase(GSH-PX) of blood, observed the change of rats cerebral cellular morphosis by HE stain . The expression of cerebral nerve cell iNOS mRNA was also observed by hybridization in situ. The results showed Chuanxiong and Chongweizi could accelerate the disappearance of pathological nerve signand anamnesis recovery rats' acute cerebral ischemia,recovery rats' acute cerebral ischemia, of rats' cerebral ischemia. Chuanxiong and Chongweizi could decline the amount of NO and MDA, but had not obvious effect on the level of ET, GSH-PX and SOD in the blood. Chuanxiong and Chongweizi could decrease the rate of neuron cell death and increase the microvascular quantity in the CA1 region of the hippocampus. Chuanxiong and Chongweizi had weaken the expression iNOS and iNOSmRNA in the nerve cell in the CA1 region of the hippocampus in the acute stage after MCAO.
