The larynx is an important anatomic part in human body. The recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) is an important nerve in the larynx. The RLN dominates all of the intrinsic laryngeal muscle's movements and the subglottic sensation, except for cricothyroid muscle's movement. The recurrent laryngeal nerve involves not only motor fibers but also sensor fibers -, proprioception fibers and parasympathetic fibers. A lot of investigations on the RLN's anatomic path have been done. But few people have paid attention to RLN's micro-anatomic structure. The analysis about inter-nerve substance of no-cranial nerve has been reported before. The same investigation about RLN has not been seen in domestic, and few in international. The result of the RLN's repairing is not always coincidence but conflict. In the same method ,some proclaimed obtaining success, but others proclaimed the effect was limited, even inefficiency. To a great extent, the nerve fibers appeared to extend in a wrong way,and the vocal cord's movement was abnormal such as synkinesis. Considering the conflict results got in the same reconstructional method, the character of the RLN's anatomic structure maybe play some role. So to understand the character of the RLN's anatomic structure will be beneficial to the nerve repairing and the apparatus implantation.METHODS:1. The same length nerve samples of the RLN in cervical part and the common peroneal nerve were obtained from 6 adult dogs ,at the right side.2. The samples were stained with the MALLORY TRICHROME STAIN toshow the different kinds of the connective tissues in the cross section3. The samples were stained with the LUXOL FAST BLUE stain methods to show the myelin sheath.4. The electron microscopy was used to observe the nerve fibers in the nerve tract.5. The image-analysis software of TONGJI HPIAS-1000 system was used to analyse the images.6. The spss10.0 statistical software was used to analysis. T test ,p<0.05 RESULTS:The epineurium proportion has significant difference between the RLN and the peroneal nerve (x S) 0.8995 7.43200e-03 0.7073+4.39024e-02 p<0.05,2.The fasciculus proportion has significant difference between the RLN and the peroneal nerve (x S) 0.1005 7.43200e-03 0.2927 4.39024e-02 p<0.05,3.The fat's area proportion in epineurium has significant difference between the RLN and the peroneal nerve (x S) 0.7089 4.31622e-02; 0.182683 7.62054e-02 p<0.05.4.The nerve fibers' proportion in fasciculus has significant difference between the RLN and the peroneal nerve ( x S) 0.5616 2.67366e-02 0.4743 + 1.51365e-02, p<0.05.CONCLUSION:1. there is a great anatomy difference between RLN and peroneal nerve. The RLN has more epineurium proportion, more fat tissue proportion, fewer numbers of fasciculus than the peroneal nerve. The RLN has more nerve fibers area proportion than the peroneal nerve. In RLN's fasciculus ,nerve fibers is more intensive and more kinds of form than in peroneal nerve.2.The micro-anatomic structure of RLN has disadvantageous effect on nerve repairing. So, when choosing the method of the nerve reconstruction, the micro-structure of RLN should be attached more importance to.
