Objective:To investigate the different healing results of tibial nerve and common peroneal nerve after repairing and in primate animal and explore the factors that lead to different results. Methods:Twelve adult rhesue monkeys were divided into A,Bgroups and each group contains six monkeys respectively. The sciatic nerve was cut by knife completely and was repaired with 9-0 suture right now.The neural stem action potential(NAP)and compound muscle action potential(CMAP)of gastrocnemius and anterior tibial muscle were detected at3 weeks and 8 weeks after the operation.Distal and proximal stump of tibial nerve and common peroneal nerve were harvested at 3 weeks and 8 weeks after the surgery respectively. The samples were stained with Luxol Fast Blue and the number of axon was counted and the passing rate of common peroneal nerve and tibial nerve was calculated.Measurement of gastrocnemius muscle and anterior tibial muscle wet weight and muscle cell cross-sectional area recovery rate to evaluate the functional recovery of tibial nerve and common peroneal nerve. Results:At 3weeks after the surgery, the NAP and CMAP of tibial nerve and common peroneal nerve can not be detected. At the 8 weeks after the surgery, the NAP and CMAP of tibial nerve all the rhesue monkeys can be detected, and NAP of common peroneal nerve can be detected in 4 rhesue monkeys.Only 2 rhesue monkey can detect the CMAP of anterior tibial muscle.Muscle wet weight of Gastrocnemius and anterior tibial muscle is 37.14±1.26%and 38.00±1.35% at 3 weeks after surgery and there is no significance(P>0.05).Muscle cell cross-sectional rate of Gastrocnemius and anterior tibial muscle is 31.23±1.18% and33.13±1.21% at 3 weeks after surgery and there is no significance(P>0.05).At 8 weeks afrer the surgery, muscle wet weight and muscle cell cross-sectional rate of gastrocnemius is55.28±1.69% and 55.59±3.87%,muscle wet weight and muscle cell cross-sectional rate of anterior tibial muscle is 46.92±1.61% and 48.68±1.52%,which means the tibial nerve recovers better. The axon density and passing rate of tibial nerve is 1285.50±165.78/0.1 mm2 and45.62±6.70%,the axon density and passing rate of common peroneal nerve is357.25±26.00/0.1 mm2 and 13.63±1.28% at 3 weeks. The axon density and passing rate of tibial nerve is 1005.86±211.40/0.1 mm2 and 7.30±7.70%,the axon density and passing rate of common peroneal nerve is 244.25±31.93/0.1 mm2 and 11.14±1.60%% at 8 weeks. On the 7day after operation, the Bax area and average light density of group A is 5813.42±1302.44?m2and 9.24±1.66,group B is 6937.86±1460.32?m2,11.06±1.41 and group C is1924.75±1694.20?m2?6.17±0.61,group A and group B are higher than group C,and there is significant(P < 0.01).T he Bcl-2 area and average light density of group A is6533.14±1302.30)?m2 and11.43±0.96,group B is 6078.22±1184.57?m2 and13.66±1.08,group C is 9568.54±1383.76?m2?19.66±1.42,and there is significant(P<0.01).The spinal nerve cell apoptosis index is 3.4±1.1/HP,5.8±1.0/HP and 1.3±0.6/HP and there is significant(P<0.01).Conclusions: After the repair of the tibial nerve and common nerve injury of the same plane of the lower limbs, the healing results were different. The functional recovery of tibial nerve was superior to common nerve. The passing rate of tibial nerve is higher than common peroneal nerve. The effect of the posterior tibial nerve on the degeneration and death of the proximal neurons is small, which may be one of the reasons for the better recovery of the tibial nerve.
