Objective Our purpose was to determine the incidence of loss of heterozygosity (LOH)on p53 in human esophageal cancer and its correlation with esophageal cancer .Methods Genomic DNA were isolated from 22 cases of paired normal and tumor esophageal tissues, and loss of heterozygosity(LOH) on p53(17p13 loci) were analyzed by using. Southen blot hybridization and RFLP method.Result Of there 22 patients with esophageal cancer heterozygosity was found in the normal esophageal tissue of 12 cases. Of there 12 patients with esophageal cancer, loss of heterozygosity on p53 was found in the tumor tissue of 6 cases, its rate was 50% .Conclusion The highest frequency of LOH suggests that LOH on p53 is an event involved in esophageal cancer progression.
