Objective: To evaluate the effects on Halo-pelvic traction and Harrington rods with multiple wirings conjunction fixation for treatment of serious rigid scoliosis. To explore a safe, effective and easy to manipulate method for treatment of serious rigid scoliosis. Methods: Review and analyze the clinical results of twenty-four cases of patients who suffered from serious rigid scoliosis were treated by stages of slow and continuous traction by Halo-pelvic devices and Harrington rods with multiple wirings conjunction internal fixation.Measurement of Cobb' s angle was carried out in the posterior-anterior radiographies of pre-operative and post-operative standing. Figured out the corrective rate , and compared to historical studies of only once operation and stages operation respectively.Analyzed the data by t test(student t test). Observed the complications over one yearfollow-up and compared to historical studies. Results: The average degree of the curve were 108.21° ±19.15° and 58.51° ±11.75° before and after operation respectively.Corrective rate was 46.09% ± 3. 70%(39. 4% ~ 56.3%). Compared to historical studies of only once operation, the results demonstrated a significant difference statistically (t=15. 068, p<0. 05), and compared to historical studies of stages operation, the results did not demonstrate a significant difference statistically(t=0. 0882, p>0. 05). After 1 to 9 years (average 3.5 years) of follow-up, slipping-off of hook and breaking-off of steel wire happened in one case respectively. No else serious complication happened such as rod broken and spinal cord injured. Conclusions: Halo-pelvic traction and Harrington rods with multiple wirings conjunction internal fixation can correct the deformity of spinal scoliosis maximally, and it has easy to manipulate, small injury from operation, decrease thecomplication, and so on desirability.
