Objective: to investigate the relationship and mortalitybetween injury characteristics of multiple trauma withcraniocerebral injury in order to make further improvement incorresponding treatment. Methods: the clinic data of 117craniocerebral trauma patients with multiple injury fromJanuary 2001 to January 2002 were assessed in anatomicalinjuries by trauma score, according to craniocerebral injurywith different other parts of body injuries, the total ofpatients were divided into 3 groups, (1) craniocerebral traumawith chest injury (n=49), (2) craniocerebral trauma with abdomeninjury(n=15), (3) craniocerebral trauma with extremities fracture (n=53), all the cases were compared and analyzed on injury severity, constitutional relation, the distribute of age, prognosis and so on. Results: the incidence of multipletrauma by traffic accident was 69.3% in all the cases, the mortality of craniocerebral trauma with chest injury was 10. 2%, the mortality of craniocerebral trauma with abdomen injury was 13. 3%, the mortality of craniocerebral trauma with extremities fracture was 7. 55%, the mortality in the elderly was higher than that in youth(P<0.05), the ISS of survived patients with multiple trauma in each group showed no obvious difference(P >0. 05). Conclusion: traffic accident was the primary cause to result into multiple trauma, the mortality of craniocerebral trauma with abdomen injury was the highest, the mortality in the elderly was significantly increasing following multiple trauma. It is close relation ISS and prognosis of multiple trauma.
