PurposeTo identify the alteration of macular areas and the change of macular retinal thickness in myopia after excimer laser in situ keratomileusis( LASIK).MethodsWe studied 49 eyes of 25 patients with best - corrected visual 1.0 who underwent LASIK for myopia . Myopic patients were divided into two groups according to pre - operative spherical equivalent (SE) : medium and low myopia with SE 6.000(17 eyes) ; high myopia with SE >6.00D(34 eyes). Optical Coherence Tomography ( OCT) examination was performed in macular areas of 49 myopic eyes before surgery ,and 1 day , 3 days ,1 week ,1 month after surgery, the macular retinal thickness was measured by the computer image analysis system of OCT in 9 areas. The refraction and best - corrected visual acuity ( BCVA )of 49 myopic eyes who received LASIK before surgery ,and 1 day , 3 days ,1 week , 1 month after surgery were examined. Meanwhile, the suction time and laser treatment time were recorded. The results were analyzed by SPSS 11.0.ResultsThere was no signifiant alteration of macular retinal thickness in A2 - A9 areas of myopia between before LASIK and after LASIK ;The thickness of macular central fovea (Al area) of myopia was significantly thicker ( p < 0. 05on dayl; p <0. 01on days 3) than that of myopia before LASIK. The thickness of macula central fovea in Al area of high myopia was significantly thicker ( p < 0. 05 on dayl; p <0.01 on days 3; p <0.05 on days 7) than that of high myopia before LASIK, there was no significant difference between preoperative and 1month postoperative in the thickness of macula central fovea in Al area of high myopia; There was no statistically significant in the thickness of Al area macular fovea of medium and low myopia between before LASIK and after LASIK . The increase in macular central fovea thickness of myopia that underwent LASIK was positively correlated with preoperative diopters, laser treatment time . Hie suction time of high myopia patients who received LASIK was 12 ~ 14 seconds. The increase in macular central fovea thickness of high myopia has no correlation with Postoperative BCVA.ConclusionMild macular central fovea edema was found within the first month following LASIK, mostly in high myopia. But the changes appeared to be temporary and had no association with loss of BCVA. The increase of macular central fovea thickness in high myopia that underwent LASIK was positively correlated with preoperative diopters, laser treatment time.
