Objective To investigate the expression of Fas ligand/receptor in breast carcinoma and their clinical implication. Method The expression of Fas ligand and its receptor in 27 cases of breast benign disease and 54 cases of breast cancer was detected by SP immuohistochemical staining technique. All samples were fixed with 10% buffered formalin, embedded with paraffin and then sectioned serially.Postive staining section of Fas ligand and its receptor in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma were as control. Results The positive expression rate of Fas and FasL was 53.7% and 72.2% in breast cancer, 88.8% and 22.2% in breast benign disease respectively. In non-special invasive breast carcinomas, the expression of FasL was significantly related with histological grading,TNM stagingjlymphnode metastasis ,and the year of the patient. Conclusion The expression of Fas ligand may be a biological index and play an important role in evaluating the biological characteristics of breast cancer.
