Objective To evaluate the change of IL-6, NO, SOD, MDA, cTnI and CK-MB in serum of newboms with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy.Methods Serum levels of IL-6, NO, SOD, MDA, cTnI and CK-MB was measured in 46 cases of newboms with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy(14 cases of mild, 26 cases of moderate and 6 cases severe status) at the first day and the seventh day after birth and in 10 cases normal fetal cord serum.Results (1) Serum levels of IL-6, NO and MDA in the HIE groups were obviously higher than in the normal groups (P<0. 01). Serum levels of IL-6, NO and MDA in the HIE at the seventh day were decreased than at the first day (P<0. 05). There were statistically significant differences between any two of the three HIE groups (all P<0. 05), and serum levels of IL-6, NO and MDA were highest in the severe HIE groups, lowest in the mild HIE groups.(2) SOD activity of serum in the HIE groups were obviously lower than in the normal groups (P<0.01), but obviously increased at the seventh day than at the first day (P<0. 05). There were statistically significant differences between any two of the three HIE groups (all P<0. 05), and SOD activity of serum groups were lowest in the severe HIE, highest in the mild HIE groups.(3) Serum levels of cTnl and CK-MB in the HIE groups were obviously higher than in the normal groups (P<0. 01), hut obviously decreased at the seventh day than atthe first day (P<0. 05). There were statistically significant differences between any two of the three HIE groups (all P<0. 05), and serum levels of cTnI and CK-MB were highest in the severe HIE, lowest in the mild HIE groups. Serum level of cTnl in the HIE groups was significantly related to serum level of CK-MB (P<0. 01).Conclusion The present data suggest that the changes of serum levels of IL-6, NO, SOD, MDA, cTnl and CK-MB were correlated with severity of HIE. IL-6, NO, SOD and MDA can play an important role in the pathologic process of HIE. cTnI and CK-MB can be a good standard for the diagnosis of cardiac injury in the HIE. The present data have a value for diagnosis prognosis and treatment of HIE.
