Diabetes mellitus is a familiar disease from metabolism and internalsecretion disorder. With the improvement of people's living standard, the fatcolony in the people has been increasing rapidly. Diabetes mellitus is the thirdserious disease which threatens human health after heart / brain hemal diseaseand tumour disease. Although many achievements were obtained after years ofhard work, the nosogenetic mechanism of the disease has not been completelyclarified and the ideal cured method has not yet been found. Except formedicine, the best method to control these patients' blood glucose is thedietetical way. There is a long history using various products from silkworms andmulberry trees to cure many diseases including Diabetes mellitus in Chinesetraditional medicine and secret folk recipes at home and abroad. From 1980'son, deep and wide studies have been carrying out by experts all over the worldin the field of systematic exploitation and utilization of the production frommulberry, silkworm, silkworm pupa and silkworm moth, especially in the areaof health-caring article. Many of these products have come into the market andbeen applied in clinics. Based on domestic and overseas correlative research fruits, we tooksystematic tests and developed a kind of compound preparation (SilkwormPowder Compound, SPC) to cure diabetics, the main ingredient of which is thesilkworm powder (SP). In this paper, the effects of various factors such as silkworm variety, mulberry source, silkworm rearing season and processing technics on SPC'slowering blood glucose level has been investigated by animal test in laboratory. The functions of SPC were disclosed here on physiological and biochemicalindexes such as blood glucose, blood fat, growth and development of mouse. The elementary clinical test provides foundation for turning SPC into VImedicine or sanitarian foodstuff to cure diabetic patients. The main test results are as followed. 1. It was proved that there were significantly differences betweendecreasing effect of SPC made from different silkworm materials on bloodglucose through the experiments of the diabetes mellitus model mice and theones fed with high sugar artificial diet. Firstly, silkworm varieties had mostimportant influence upon the SPC's function of reducing the blood glucoselevel. In all the 9 silkworm varieties, stock seeds behaved better than crossbreed in the process of decreasing the blood glucose and the yellow bloodvariety Luhuang was the best one. Secondly, mulberry varieties alsoinfluenced the SPC's effect, and in the 6 mulberry varieties Husang32 showedits excellent expressive force. Thirdly, process methods of silkworm powderaffected the work of SPC. The treatment of starvation and freeze drying tookprecedence of the one of starvation and microwave drying, and followed bythe treatment of well fed and freeze drying, then the starvation and oven dry.Fourthly, leaf quality of mulberry had the smallest effect on the function ofSPC in cutting down the blood glucose level. Therefore, the best way ofproducing silkworm powder in SPC is picking leaves from the upper half ofshoot of Husang32 during spring time, rearing silkworm Luhuang till the 3rdday of the 5th instar and then, freeze drying silkworms being hungered for 12hours. 2. SPC which is mainly composed of SP (Silkworm Powder) canmarkedly decrease the blood glucose level after healthy mouse's ingestion andthe optimal effect may get to 11.2 %.Meanwhile there's no bad influence onmouse's growth and development, reproduction, behavior. Even high doseSPC was used, side effects such as hypoglycemia were never found in theexperiment. In addition, feeding SPC could enhance the mouse's ability ofanti-tiredness. There was notable difference between the experimental groupand the control one, and the exhaustion time of mouse for swimming was VIIprolonged...
