| Objective To investigate the distribution of Escherichia coil(E. coli) strains harboring OI-28 and to reveal prevalence, susceptible group and clinical features it caused.Methods 1.All of the diarrhea patients were from the out-patient units of two hospitals in Shanxi province from July and August of 2003. Stool specimen were collected and clinical symptoms and signs were recorded at the same time.2.All E. coli strains were tested for five EDL 933 OI-28 genes (Z0608, Z0609,Z0615,Z0634,Z0635) by PCR and DNA hybridizationResults1.In the present study we investigated 257 fecal samples from children patients with diarrhea in Taiyuan , Shanxi Province, China. The isolation rates for patients with diarrhea divided in four age groups, 0 to 1, 1~3, 3~6, 6 to 18 years, were 77.82%, 10.51%, 5.84% and 5.84%, respectively. 2.A total number of 206 enteric pathogenic bacteria strains were detected among stool samples from 257 patients ,with isolation rates of diarrheagenic E. coli and others 57.98% and 22.18% respectively.3. 21 (8.17%) strains contain OI-28 (positive for all five genes), 10 (3.89%) contain an "incomplete" OI-28 (positive for one to two genes), and 74 (28.79%) strains do not contain OI-28.Conclusions1.E. coli stains harboring OI-28 were frequently isolated from diarrhea patients, which suggest they might be major pathogen associated with diarrhea disease.2.Five OI-28 gene tend to exist synchronously, which may be extrinsic DNA segment acquired from other bateria though by horizontal transfer.3.These patients correlating with OI-28-harboring E. coli had not special clinical symptoms and signs, which need further research. |
