Objective: To explore the protective effect and mechanism of transcranial magnetic stimulation(TMS) on acute middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion(MCAO/R) rats. Methods: TMS group and sham TMS group each with 30 rats accepted 2 sessions ofTMS(200 pulses each session) and sham TMS respectively on Ih and 12h after MCAO/R 90min. Determine BDNF immunity positive cells, monoamines (dopamine, noradrenaline, adrenaline, serotonin) and their metabolites(3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid), activity of acetylcholinesterase as well as water content of cortex around the infarction focus and the infarct volume in each group. Carry on statistical analysis to the acquired date. Results: At 6h, 12h and 24h after reperfusion, count of BDNF immunity positive cellsin cortex around the infarction focus of TMS group has remarkable differences compared with sham TMS group (P<0.05, P<0.05, P<0.01). At MCAO/R 24h, noradrenaline, adrenaline and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid content of the cortex around the infarction focus lower than sham TMS group notably (PO.01, P<0.05, PO.01); but dopamine and serotonin content higher than the sham TMS group remarkably (P<0.01); there is not significant difference in 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid content between two groups (P>0.05); the activity of acetylcholinesterase of the cortex around the infarction focus were both reduced obviously, but its difference does not have remarkable significance( P>0.05); water content of cortex around the infarction focus between two groups compare remarkable difference(P<0.05); the infarct volume of TMS group is 297.34?7.49mm3, the infarct volume of sham TMS group is 327.27?0.87mm3, two groups compare the difference remarkably(P<0.05).Experimental study of protective effect of transcranial magnetic stimulation on focal cerebral ischemic rat. AbstractConclusions: TMS has the effect of increasing the expression of BDNF positive cells in cortex around the infarction focus, lightening brain edema, modulate monoamines of cortex around the infarction focus, and reducing infarct volume to the MCAO/R rats . The result indicates that the TMS has protecting effect to the MCAO/R rats.
