Objective: To evaluate the diagnosis value of CT in nasal sinus or nasal cavity diseases.Materials and Methods: Two hundred and forty seven cases were included in this study. And they were separated into three groups: The first group, 100 cases with benign or malignant masses were proved by operation or pathologic biopsy ?And according to where the lesion involved, the masses were defined into three types: A, the lesion locally in nasal cavity only; B, the lesion involved nasal cavity and nasal sinus; C, the lesion extended beyond nasal cavity and/or paranasal sinus, and involved the adjacent structures. The second group, 102 cases with nasal sinusitis. The third group , 45 cases without nasal lesion. Then inflammatory group was compared with normal group to find whether there was a connection between the anatomic and the chronic sinusitis or not. Results: Group of benign or malignant masses in nasal cavity and sinuses: In 60 cases benign mass: There were 53 cases with type A, 1 with type B, 6 with type C; In 40 cases Malignant mass: There were 3 cases with type A, 9 with type B, 28 with type C. After Chi-square test, x=63.83, P<0.05, The difference between the two groups had statistic significance.Groups of inflammatory and normal in nasal cavity and sinus: In 102inflammatory cases, 72 cases with anatomic variations of OMC; In 45 normal cases, 19 cases with anatomic variations of OMC. After Chi-square test, x=10.65, P<0.05, the difference between the two groups had statistic significance. Conclusions: Most of the tumor and inflammation can be diagnosed accurately by CT in the nasal cavity and sinuses. By the axial spiral CT scan and coronal reconstruction, the anatomic variations of nasal cavity and sinuses can be evaluated correctly, and it is very important for the nasal operations.
