Objective: To investigate the changes of activities of mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK) in the liver, heart, brain of the rats with spleen-yin deficiency syndrome and the effective mechanism of Chinese herbs for replenishing the spleen yin. Methods: The rat model of spleen-yin deficiency was set up by applying the multiply factors of improper diet, overstrain and damage from abuse administration drugs. And the activities of MAPK in the liver, heart, brain tissue were detected by substrate phosphorylation method. Results: (1)The MAPK activity in the heart tissue of rats with spleen-yin deficiency was increased obviously. The MAPK activity in the liver has the increasing tendency but has the decreasing tendency in brain tissue. (2) The herb of replenishing the spleen-yin could increase the MAPK activity of the cytoplasm of the heart tissue of the rats with spleen-yin deficiency, but there was little influence on the MAPK activity in the brain and heart tissue. Conclusions: It was shown that the MAPK activities of the liver, brain and heart tissue changed in the rats with spleen-yin deficiency syndrome, and the herbs of replenishing the spleen-yin had effect on the MAPK signal transduction pathway.
