Part 1 : Application value of Multi-slice spiral CT, 2D and 3D reformation methods in peripheral pulmonary carcinomaObjective: To assess the application value of multi-slice spiral CT(MSCT), two-dimension and three-dimension reformation methods in peripheral pulmonary carcinoma(PPC).Materials and methods: 43 patients with PPC were scanned with MSCT. Images were reconstructed with methods of shaded surface display (SSD) and multiplanar reformation (MPR).Results: Axial CT could reveal intratumor construction, bordered lobulation, spiculum and the relationship of tumor to pleura, vessels, mediastinal structure. But the area and the features of the images, which could only be revealed on cross section, were limited. SSD was superior to axial CT in showing the whole shape, lobulaion of tumor, the relationship of tumor to pleura and vessels. SSD could s low the relationship of tumor to bronchi approximately. Images were d rect and sense of stereo is powerful. But SSD could not show intratumor structure and exact bronchus sign. MPR was superior to axial CT in showing the relationship of tumor topleura, mediastinal, large vessels and shewing the poison of hilum intumescent lymphen exactly. Conclusion: SSD image is direct, sense of stereo is powerful and it can increase the detection rate of tumor edge feature. MPR could show the exact position and adjacent structures of PPC. Application of MPR and SSD based on the image of axial CT is one of the effective methods to diagnose and evaluate PPC. MSCT and its reformation methods provide more messages which have diagnostic value than conventional CT and they have important roles in tumor-stageing, pre-operative evaluation, directing bronchoscopy biopsy and surgical treament.
