Objective: To observe the recently therapeutic effects of NVB combined with DDP in the treatment of recurrent or metastatic breast cancer. Methods: Clinic data of patients with recurrent or metastatic breast cancer in our department from June 2001 to December 2003 were reviewed.Thirty-eight cases testified by postoperative pathology and the therapeutic effects could be evaluated. All patients with recurrent or metastatic breast cancer were treated with NVB 25mg/m2 IVD for day 1 and day 8, and cisplatin 30mg/m2 IVD for day 1 to day 3, 21 days a cycle. Altogether 95 cycles were given with a median of 2.5 cycles (2-4cycles). Results: From the data of patients with recurrent or metastatic breast cancer, It was found that among the whole group the overall response rate (ORR) was 57.9% (22/38), including 4 CR and 18 PR, SD 13 and PD 3. The medium duration of response for all patients was 6.8 months (1-17 months). The main toxic effect was bone marrow suppression, mainly leukopenia in 78. 9%, and grade 3 and grade 4 leukopenia in most of patients ( 55. 3%). And next side-effect was ingastrointestinal tract, especially vomiting, and grade 3 and grade 4 vomiting were 39. 5%. The incidence of phlebitis was very low, since in most cases drugs were given through subclavicle vein intubation. There was no treatment related death and this regimen had good tolerability. Conclusion: For recurrent or metastatic breast cancer, NVB combined with DDP is an effective regimen, and it is safe with a tolerable toxicities.
