Objectives: To study the value of methylene blue chromoendoscopy in diagnosis of gastric cancer and correlated lesions, and increase the diagnosis rate of early gastric cancer. Methods: Selecting 120 patients at random, 0. 5% methylene blue solutions were springkled through gastroscope to gastric mucosal lesions in 60 cases (test group), who had taken mucosal antifoam agents, then washing and watching gastric mucosal colors, taking samples at the regions of staining and /or unstaining; the other 60 cases (contrasted group) take samples under routine endoscopy. Then carrying out contrasted analysis to the two groups. Results: (1) After methylene blue chromoendoscopy, normal and chronic inflammated mucosa can not be stained; carcinoma can be dyed clearly, which color is black or deep blue and the surface of these black dots is not even, the size is unequal and unregulated; the colors of intestinal metaplasia are blue and dysplasia are dyed deeply . (2) After methylene blue chromoendoscopy, 1 case of gastric carcinoma was confirmed by pathology; 37 cases of intestinal metaplasia and dysplasia are diagnosed, there are 22 chronic inflammations. Thedetected rate of intestinal metaplasia and dysplasias in staining group is 45%, which is much more higher than the rate of contrasted group-16.67%(p<0.01). (3) The biopsy tissues taking from the staining regions have 25 cases of intestinal metaplasia and dysplasias , which are more higher than the tissues of unstaining area-6cases (P<0.01) . Conclusion: the method of spraying dyes to gastric mucosa through endoscope can show the lesions and normal mucosa more distinctly, and is beneficial to identifying the lesions, differentiating benign lesions from malignant lesions and taking biopsy exactly, increasing the positive rate of diagnosis. Therefore the technique has important value to increase the diagnosis rate of early gastric cancer. The technique of chromoendoscopy is simple and safe. It is worthy of clinical application and dissemination.
