For the purpose of probing into the differential diagnosis ofulcerative colitis(UC)and Crohn's disease(CD). the clinical symptoms and the results of the endoscopy and pathologic examination in 29 cases with UC and 18 cases with CD were analyzed. The results showed that hematochezia occurred more significantly in UC than in CD(P<0.01), the weight loss was more significant in CD than in UC(P<0.05). No significant difference was found between me two groups in abdominal pain, diarrhea and fever. CD and UC underwent endoscopy respectively. The cobblestone sign, fissured ulcers and cauliflower mass were only revealed in CD; mucosal hyperemia and edema, erosion and pseudopolyp showed no significant difference between the two diseases. CD can affect all of the enteron and mainly affects the ileum and cecum, and the diseased parts in UC are only in the colon and rectum. It suggested that hematochezia and weight loss are important diagnostic parameters, The endoscopic characteristics of CD are summarized as fissured ulcers, fistula and caseating granuloma which are the main evidences for the diagnosis of CD.
