PrefaceAcute spinal cord injury is a severe disease which can cause physical disability and is very common in traffic accident. Most patients can survive from it, but it is hard to value the degree of neural regeneration. The prostecdtive efficacy is not satisfactory. It was reported recently that the Leukemia inhibitory factors (LIF) is a kind of multifunctional cytokine and it can protect the nervous system against the injury. The research of LIF protecting the central nervous system has been the hot pot now. It has been reported abroad that LIF can augment the Corticospinal Axon Growth after Adult CNS Injury, change the style of neu-rite regenerate from the injury and promote the secretion of other neurotrophic factors such as NT-3. There is few research about this in china. In our study we would inject LIF into the spinal cord of the models and investigate the recovery of hind limbs' motor function and the expression of Glial Fibrillary Acid Protein (GFAP). We evaluated the protection of LIF to the spinal cord and discussed it' s prospect in clinical application.Materials and Methods36 adult male wistar rats weighted 200 ~ 250g were divided in to two groups in random; experimental group and control group. Then we established the spinal cord-trauma model in Allen' s method. The experimental group were injected LIF and the control group were injected NS in the part of the injuried spinal cord. We investigated the behavioral condition by BBB ranking, modified CBS score and modified Tarlov score. Executed the rats after the treatment of lday, 1...
