Objective:To investigate the change of volume and the levels of MMP-8and TIMP-1in gingival crevicular fluid(GCF), peri-implant sulcular fluid (PISF)in order to explore the relations between PISF volume, the levels of MMP-8 andTIMP-1 in PISF and peri-implant status. Methods:Forty implants and matched healthy teeth in 29 patients wereincluded and divided into the implants group and the normal group. Theimplants group was again divided into the healthy group and the inflammatorygroup according to the plaque index( PLI ) , modified sulcus bleedingindex(MBI), probing depth(PD)and horizontal absorption of alveolar bone, fifteen implants in healthy group, twenty-five implants in inflammatory group. To observe and record the clinical parameters: PLI, MBI, PD of every implantand tooth. PISF (GCF) was collected by paperstrip and then calculated theirvolume, ELISA was used to detect the levels MMP-8, TIMP-1 in GCF andPISF. Results: (1) The deference of PLI,MBI,PD,PISF volume, MMP-8levels in PISF(GCF) among the normal group, the healthy implant group and theinflammatory implant group were statistically significant at p﹤0.005 level, the clinical parameters , PISF volume and MMP-8 levels in PISF were higher (p﹤0.05) in the inflammatory implant group than in the healthy group and thenormal group , no significant deference was found between the healthy groupand the normal group(p﹥0.05). The experiment also showed no significantdifference of TIMP-1 levels between the three groups(p﹥0.05). (2) Strongpositive relationships were found between PISF volume, MMP-8 levels and theclinical parameters. The correlation coefficient of PISF volume and PLI,MBI,PD are 0.631,(p=0.001);0.502, (p=0.012);0.546,(p=0.006) respectively; The correlation coefficient of MMP-8 levels and PLI,MBI,PD are 0.683,(p=0.000);0.582,(p=0.003);0.623,(p=0.001),while the levels of TIMP-1 inPISF was not significantly associated with the clinical parameters, thecorrelation coefficient are 0.239,(p=0.082);0.216,(p=0.116);0.221,(p=0.108). Conclusion:The volume and the levels of MMP-8 and TIMP-1in healthyGCF are similar with in healthy PISF. The increase of PISF volume andelevated MMP-8 levels in PISF can reflect the degree of the inflammatoryperi-implant disease, could be helpful in early diagnosis for Peri-implantitis. Thelevels of TIMP-1 in PISF have no correlation with the peri-implant condition.
