Objective A series of 535 patients with pituitary adenomas were analyzed and surgical results of patients were assessed. Methods collected data of 535 pituitary adenomas patients from January 1988 to February 2004 were analyzed . Patients underwent surgical treatment were divided into two groups.group I was resected with naked eyes , group II was resected with microneurosurgery. The clinical characteristics such as :age,sex,classification and clinical presentations were assessed. The surgical complications and recurrence rate of two groups were assessed. Results Pituitary adenomas were more commonly diagnosed at the age of 20 to 40 years. Visual acuity and visual field disturbance 82%, endocrine disorders 72%,headache 65%,were the most common clinical presentations. The incidence of major surgical complications and recurrence were statistically significant between the two groups.(P<0.05) Conclusions Microsurgical technique has made surgical treatment safter and preciseness,can improve the total remove rate. The incidence of major surgical complications and recurrence were significant decline.
