Diabetes mellitus belongs to the XiaoKe category of traditional Chinese medicinal Science. The incidence rate of DM is very high in most countries and nationalities all over the world. And the hypoglycemic effect of Chinese medicine is effective, which get more attention. And we choosed Potentilla Disclor Bunge that was used by many DM people. The aim was to study the hypoglycemic effect of Potentilla Disclor Bunge, searched after hypoglycemic ingredients in Potentilla Disclor Bunge, and provided the theoreunder for explodering hypoglycemic food .It was the first time to study the effect of water extract of Potentilla Disclor Bunge on metabolism of glucose in normal liver cell and insulin-resistant liver cell in vitro. The conclusion was as follows: that water extracts of Potentilla Disclor Bunge could not only increase the ability of glucose intake in normal liver cell, but also increase the metabolism of glucose in the IR liver cells in vitro (p<0.05)..Mice were fed with the diets enriched with sucrose (20%, w/w) and lard (10%,w/w) and cholesterol (2.5%,w/w) to induce hyperglycemic mice. And these hyperglycemic mice were given the water extract of Potentilla Disclor Bunge. The conclusion was as follows: The water extract of Potentilla Disclor Bunge had hypoglycemic effect on hyperglycemic mice clearly, and the higher the content of water extract of Potentilla Disclor Bunge was, the better the effect was. In the same time, the mice's weight decreased and synthesis of glycogen increased, and the activity of glucokinase got improved. The last experiment was to study the effect of ingredients in Potentilla Disclor Bunge on metabolism of glucose in liver cell. And the conclusion was as follows: the hypoglycemic effect of the metabolized products of alkaloids was better. And there were unknown hypoglycemic ingredients in Potentilla Disclor Bunge.
