Free-end edentia is one of high incidence rate disease in the oral and maxillofacial diseases .It mainly occurs among the aged people.Removable partial denture(RPD)is a common treatment in daily dental practice. But the differentiation of the cerebral blood flows (CBF)before and after the restoration of free-end edentulous patients during different masticatory interval is still unclear. This study aims to test the cerebral blood flow of each patient in three different condition which include to insert denture without mastication,5 min after mastication, 10 min after mastication with TCD made in Germany and compare with Control group. It provides a foundation to further reveal the relationship between mastication and brain function.Purpose:The reseach is focus on the effect of masticatory movements on the function activity of brain in comparison to the blood flow variety before and after the restoration of free-end edentulous patients with RPD.Material and Method:1. 16 free-end edentulous patients are selected. The flow-rate of brain blood flow is recorded at different intervals, which includes to insert edenture without mastication,5 min aftar mastication, 10 min after mastication, with TCD After one month of inserting RPD ,the blood flow-rate is measured again and compared with that of before restoration. Another 16 aged people without dentition defect are used as a control group.2. The patients are asked to lie down.Doppler Ultrasound scan is carried out after 30 min of rest. The middle cerebral artery(MCA)peak flow-rate in systole period(VS), late diastole period(Vd)and mean peak flow-rate(Vm) are respectively measured through temporal window under normal state. After first assay, the patients are asked to chew chewing gum for 5 min and 10min respectively, then, the Vs ,Vd and Vm of MCA are measured.
