Objective In order to search for the characteristic of fat metabolizeabout newborns with intrauterine growth retardation(IUGR), the serum leptin, cholesterol(CHO) and triglyceride(TG) in cord blood of newborns with IUGR were examined and the relationships between their levels and prenatal growth were analyzed. Methods The cord blood of the patients were collected from thedepartments of obstetrics of The people's Hospital of Xin Tai and The Central Hospital of Heze. The cases were divided into three groups:(1)small for gestational age (SGA) or IUGR group (n=17);(2) appropriate gestational age (AGA) group (n=41); (3) large for gestational age (LGA) group (n=19). The serum leptin level was measured by enzyme amplified sensitivity immunoassay (EASIA);the serum CHO and TG level by auto-biochemistry analysis machine. Comparisons among three groups were assessed by one way analysis of variance , and comparisons between two groups were assessed by student's test. The relationships between leptin , TG and CHO levels to gestational age and birthweight was assessed by rank correlation analysis respectively. Results (1)The concentrations of leptin among three groups weresignificantly different(F=17. 75, P<0.01). SGA group(0.7147±0. 5761)ng/ml was lower than AGA group(2.710±0.4329)ng/ml(P<0.01),and AGA group was lower than LGA group(5.687±0. 3916)ng/ml(P<0.05). Leptin level increased with gestational age and birthweight(r=0. 332, p<0.01;r=0.645, P<0. 01, respectively). (2)The concentrations of TG among three groups were significantly different (F=8.85, P<0.01). SGA group.(0. 7141±0.1576)mmol/l was higher than AGA group(0.5027±0.1330)mmol/l (P<0.01) ,but the difference between AGA group and LGA group(0.4907±0.1397)mmol/L had not statistical significance (P>0.05). TG level redused with birthweight (r=-0.320, p=0.05) and had no...
