Objective:To study the relation between serum IGF-1,NSE and brain injury in premature infants and predict brain injury earlier so as to interfere in high risk infants early and help to screen high risk infants and guard high risk infant without brain injury. Methods:Prospective clinical study. vein serum was collect from 52 cases≤35 weeks and birth weight 1000-2500g preterm births from JUN 2003 to JAN 2005,the control group was term newborns from 15 cases. The concentrations of vein serum are determined with EIA, at the same time following up these premature infants.Statistical analysis was performed with SAS8.0 Results: There are 10 infants who occurred different extent brain injury in 52 cases including 2 cerebral palsy,2 death,6 lag of motor development. In comparison with normal term infants ,IGF-1 levels of premature groups in peripheral blood decreased in the first day ; In comparison with normal term infant, IGF-1 levels of premature groups in peripheral blood decreased in the seventh day. Difference in NSE levels is significant between premature groups and normal term infant in the first day; In comparison with normal term infant, NSE levels of premature groups in peripheral blood increased in the seventh day, but it is not significant different in control group. Difference in IGF-1,NSE levels of premature groups between larger than or equal to 2kg in the first day and larger than 2kg in the seventh day is significant;Difference in IGF-1 NSE levels of premature groups between less than 2kg in the first day and less than 2kg in the seventh day is significant. Difference in IGF-1,NSE levels is not significant between larger than or equal to 2kg and less than 2kg in the first day; but it is not significant in control group. Difference in IGF-1,NSE levels is significant between brain injury group and without brain group. Conclusion: Research confirms that when premature infants occurred brain injury, IGF-1 levels decreased ,NSE levels increased. there is relationship between the levels of IGF-1,NSE and the extent of brain injury group as well as the recovery of pathogenetic condition; IGF-1,NSE levels can act the biochemical indicator to reflect brain injury .To determine IGF-1,NSE levels through venous blood is an effective convenient method and can diagnose early brain injury and undertake early intervention.
