Objective To study the expression of Rb, Rb2/p130 gene in osteosarcoma, anddiscuss the relationship among these two factors and their possible effects oncarcinogenesis and progression of osteosarcomas. Methods 38 cases ofosteosarcoma and 18 cases of osteochondroma and 30 cases of normal bonetissues(>3cm) have been examined with the method of S-Pimmunohistochemistry. Results 1. The expression rate of Rb, Rb2/p130 gene inosteosarcoma was respectively 47.37% and 42.11%. The expression rate of Rb,Rb2/p130 gene in osteochondroma was respectively 88.89% and 77.78%. Theexpression rate of Rb and Rb2/p130 gene in normal bone tissuewas respectively90% and 83.33%. 2. Both the expression rate of Rb and Rb2/p130 gene inosteosarcoma was lower than that in osteochondroma and normal bonetissue(P<0.01). 3. The expression rate of Rb and Rb2/p130 in osteochondromaand normal bone tissue had no significant difference(P>0.05). 4. A significantpositive correlation can be identified between Rb and Rb2/p130 gene expressionin osteosarcoma (r=0.4812, p<0.01). Conclusion Low expression of Rb andRb2/p130 gene may involve in the carcinogenesis and the development ofosteosarcoma and can reflect the malignant degree and prognosis ofosteosarcoma.
