Bladder cancer is the most common urological malignancy in China, of which 92.8% is transitional cell carcinoma. 50-80% of them experience local tumor recurrence.Classic clinicopathol-ogical features such as stage and grade at diagnosis are crucial for optimal treatment and predicting clinical outcomes of patients with bladder cancer. However, at present no suitable biological marker is available for routine clinical use in bladder cancer. Cystitis glandularis is a rare proliferative disorder of the mucus-producing glands within the mucosa and submucosa of urinary bladder epithelium. It is most often reported in association with conditions causing chronic bladder inflammation, but malignant transformation has been reported. Purpose:to investigate the expressions of survivin protein, a antiapoptotic protein, in the superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder and cystitis glandularis, and their correlations with their significances to histopathological grade and clinical stage. Materials and Methods: Immunohistochemical staining of paraffin sections using a polyclonal antibody for survivin was performed in 43 cases of superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder and 36 cases of cystitis glandularis using the standard avidin-biotin-peroxidase technique. The relationships between the expression of survivin , clinicopathological...
