Objective To investigate the expression of Epidermal Growth Factor(EGF) and its receptor(EGFR) in villi and deCidua of early normal pregnancy and spontaneous abortion in early gestation stage and their relationship with the concentration of p-HCG in maternal's serum. Study on the correlation of Epidermal Growth Factor and its Receptor with the pathogenesis of spontaneous abortion. Methods Twenty normal early pregnant women and twenty spontaneous abortion in early gestation stage women were studied.Expression of EGF and its receptor in villi and deeidua are detected by immunohistochemical technique. The levels of P-HCG in maternal's serum were detected by radioimmunoassay(RIA) method. Results (1) There were positive expression of EGF and its receptor in both villu and deeidua in control group. EGF and its receptor was located in syntrophoblast cells, cotytrophoblast cells. The expression of EGF/ EGFR was stronger in syntrophoblast cells. EGF/EGFR was located on cytomembrane and in cytoplasm of these cells. EGF/EGFR was located in glandular epithelium and stromal cells of the deeidua. EGF/EGFR was located on cell membrane and in cytoplasm of these cells. (2) There were no difference in EGF/ EGFR' localization between two groups. The expression of EGF/ EGFR in villu and deeidua in spontaneous abortion group was significantly lower than that in control group (P<0.01) .
